Chromium. It is an essential mineral that is very important for proper sugar regulation. It appears to have a beneficial role by enhancing insulin activity on carbohydrate metabolism. Chromium levels decrease with age. I typically recommend between 500- 1000mcg per day. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15208835/

Magnesium. Studies show that people who have high levels of magnesium in their blood have a reduced risk of diabetes. Magnesium appears to lower blood sugar levels by improving insulin resistance on a cellular level. In addition, the majority of patients diagnosed with diabetes were found to be magnesium deficient suggesting optimal magnesium levels are important for preventing diabetes.  I typically suggest 200-600 mg per day. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9850798/

Alpha lipoic acid. It is a natural compound that has antioxidant properties which have an effect on sugar metabolism, insulin secretion, and insulin sensitivity. Further, alpha lipoic acid plays a role in improving diabetic nerve damage or neuropathy. Typically, I recommend 300mg twice a day. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9824456/

Inositol. It is a key factor in blood glucose metabolism. I use it often for patients diagnosed with a metabolic hormonal imbalance condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Myo-inositol has been widely studied for its role as an insulin-sensitizing factor. In fact, it has been demonstrated that myo-inositol may decrease insulin resistance by approximately 70% in post-menopausal women with metabolic syndromeI typically recommend 2-4 grams per day. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7346495/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29980312/

Ginseng. It has been documented that ginseng therapy decreased fasting glucose, lowered body weight , and increased glucose utilization and insulin regulation in diabetic patients. Ginsenosides, through their interaction with insulin receptors, may help enhance the body's response to insulin, thereby supporting better blood sugar control. This effect has been observed in individuals with type 2 diabetes as well as those at risk of developing the condition. I typically dose 500mg twice daily. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK92776/
